Fighting comment abuse and spam

This is just an idea.

  1. Very good work. How do I find the IP address of a comment in blogger? If you find a way to block these IPs in blogger, that will be awesome.

Thats a great job! I have reported a couple of spams/abuses in US and they had at the least replied and said further action will be taken. A few emails have stopped too. I strongly recommend to report abuse to the US providers… that would help to an extend.

Again since the abuses I received were emails I was able to track the ‘Originating IP’ but I am not sure if it is possible in the comments as the user might be using ‘other’ modes to hide their identity.

  5. Ramani: I don’t use Blogger.

dyno: I don’t know how other bloggers take this issue. But I am going to report all abuses and also block the IP addresses in my server (if it is not from a pool allocated to dial-up users).

The issues involved in ‘Tracking the original IP’ apply to both ’emails’ as well as ‘visitors to website’. If some one is using a open-proxy server to post a comment then we are not going to loose anything by adding that open-proxy server to the block list and that is what I intend to do.
